C-Team Dominates ... Period!

The weather was perfect and so were the members of this year’s 3rd/4th Grade Youth Football C-Team! The 2015 HFL Youth Cougar C-Team took to the Grid-iron for the first time this season to face off against the Dundee Jr Scotts at Dundee High School wondering if their 3 weeks of preparation would pay off … and it did! The tone of the game was set early as the Cougar Defense stuffed the Jr Scott’s Offense on 4 consecutive plays that netted the Scotsmen -25 yards from scrimmage. With a great drive start deep in opponent territory, the Cougars took the ball into the end zone on the first play from scrimmage on a nice 19 yard end around by Conor Finn to go up quickly 6 -0. Following an unsuccessful extra point attempt, the Cougar Defense came up big again and stopped the Scotts on 4 downs to force them to turn over the ball at mid-field. Two downs later, on 3rd and 20, Matt Meacham broke into the clear on a QB keeper for a 60 yard touchdown to put HFL up 12-0. Once again, HFL’s Defense, led by Landon Hammond, Cooper Levine, and Aaron Fasick, pushed the Dundee offense backwards to give the Cougars the ball at the Dundee 29 yard line. Following a false start penalty, the Cougars executed a flawless reverse to Drew Angelo to put him in the clear for 34 yards and to go up 18-0 … and they weren’t done yet! For the third straight time, the Cougar D was tenacious and wielded no positive yards. The offense took over at the Jr Scotts 40 yard like, and following an offside penalty and a 10 yard scamper by Meacham on a broken play, they had it first and 10 at the 25 yard line. Back to the running attack that got them up by 18 in less than two quarters, this time it was Hammonds turn to carry the rock to the end-zone! The right side of the Offensive line … Austyn Crego, Brady Parker, and Angelo helped open a big hole for Hammond to shoot through on his way “to the house” … 24-0 HFL! JP Gionforte then put the punctuation mark on a fantastic first half performance by taking the ball into the end-zone for the Cougars first successful extra pint conversion of the season, making the score HFL Cougars 25, Dundee Jr Scotts 0 going into halftime.

Following an HFL kickoff and another fantastic 4-and-out stand by the Defense … it was the HFL offense that finished up the day’s scoring on another Angelo run around left end for a 30 yard TD and a 31-0 lead. The Cougars tacked on the extra-point conversion with a Meacham to Angelo pass and finished up an outstanding afternoon of offensive excitement. With a 32 point lead in the 4th Quarter, the Defense not yielding a single first down all day, and the ground-and-pound running  attack during the final quarter of play, the C-Team secured their first win of the 2015 Football season over the Dundee Jr Scotts, 32 to 0!
