Late Momentum Swing Not Enough for HFL Comeback

The HFL Youth Cougars C-team lost their game against the Pal-Mac Red Raiders in Palmyra on Sunday. Despite creative attempts by the Cougars at moving the ball, Pal-Mac’s stout defense held HFL scoreless in the first half. Pal-Mac was effective in moving the ball for several scores in the first half, capped off by a long scoring pass with 40 seconds left before halftime, giving the Red Raiders a 19-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, the Cougars stepped up their defensive play; effectively stopping the Pal-Mac offense with some notable plays made early by Preston Yates. The HFL offense appeared to be coming to life with some effective running by Donnell Hall and Nolan Smith, but miscues consistently bit the Cougars, resulting in turnovers. As the game went on, HFL seemed to start gaining some momentum in the trenches with good blocking up front by Jack Wirth, Conlan Rorick, and Colton Miller. HFL finally broke their scoring drought on a long touchdown run by Carson Joint with a few minutes left in the contest. After successfully converting the extra point, HFL tried to stage a comeback with an on sides kick attempt, but it was not meant to be on this day for the Cougars. The Red Raiders recovered the kick, and effectively ran out the clock for a 19-7 win over the visiting Cougars. The Youth Cougars C team stands at 2-2 on the season, and looks to pick up its third win of the season at home against Marcus Whitman on Saturday, Sept. 20.
