Despite the sunny skies following earlier torrential downpours, things would not go HFL’s way the rest of the day for the B Team. Penn Yan set the tone early on its first play from scrimmage, a long touchdown run up the middle to post a quick 7-0 lead against the Cougars. After Mason Marble made a big run to the Penn Yan 7 yard line, the physical Mustangs defense turned back the Cougars on a goal line stand. Penn Yan then took off on a huge 94 yard run up the gut for a touchdown, extending the lead 14-0. After exchanging a few fumbles, HFL fought back with some tough effective inside running of their own by Dylan Nichols, who scored a touchdown on a long run, making the score 14-6 with 4 minutes left in the half. HFL was finally able to snuff the Penn Yan run game, with Turner Wilson, Nolan Yates, Dylan Nichols, and Mason Ferrara all chipping in with big defensive plays.

The second half started where the first half left off, with Penn Yan pounding the ball inside. The Mustangs scored on a grinding drive, extending their lead to 20-6. The physical Penn Yan defense proved to be too much an HFL offense that was unable to get anything else going on the day. The Cougars defense played big in the remainder of the second half, led on some big hits and big plays by Nichols, Wilson, Yates, Ferrara, Nathan Ross, Joseph Harvey, and Mason Wanzenreid. The hard-fought game finished with a 20-6 score in favor of the Mustangs. With the loss, the Cougars drop to 4-3 on the season. The B Team concludes its 2013 season next Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2:00PM in Pittsford.
