The HFL B Team defense once again dominated, while the offense used its exceptional speed to light up the scoreboard in a convincing 31-0 shutout win over visiting Dundee.

After receiving the opening kickoff, Dundee ball carriers quickly found out that there would not be much running room on the day. Following gang tackles on inside runs on first and second downs, Dundee tested the outside on third and fourth downs to be met both times by the tackling tandem of Preston Huff and Andrew Childs. The always explosive Patrick Lustyk wasted no time after the turnover on downs, streaking all the way to the Dundee 1 yard line on his first run of the day. Mason Marble punched in for the touchdown, putting the Cougars up 6-0.

HFL’s dominant defense continued to deny Dundee, led by great individual efforts by Tim Kuehne, Christian Coler, and Turner Wilson. After getting the ball back, the Cougars pounced again, with Mitch Slymon taking the ball all the way down the home sideline to the one yard line. Mason Wanzenreid then took a QB keeper in for the score. Patrick Lustyk added the extra point to put the Cougars up 13-0.

After the Cougars once again denied the Jr. Scots offense, they opened up the playbook and dazzled the crowd with an exciting series of plays including a long pass from Mitch Slymon to Mason Marble, and a crafty double reverse long touchdown run by Marble putting the Cougars up 19-0 with five minutes left in the half. Not to be outdone by the Cougars offense, the defense stepped up big with big tackles for losses by Mason Ferrara and Nolan Yates. Robert Greer prevented a score, making a huge hit on a Dundee ball carrier that appeared to have a running lane open to the end zone late in the half.

The second half picked up where the first half left off. HFL scored twice, the second time on a run by Colt Green making it 31-0 at the end of the third quarter. Both defenses owned the fourth quarter, each playing tenaciously. The proud Dundee squad fought hard, and showed what they were made of, fighting hard and denying any further HFL scoring on the day. The final score ended 31-0, and marked the third shutout victory of the year for the Cougars. HFL B Team hosts Penn Yan on Sunday, 9/22 at 12:00 at HFL High School.
