Great Defense and Speedy Outside Run Game Keys to Win

The HFL C Team picked up its first win of the 2013 campaign with a 12-0 victory. It appeared as if Dundee might have something going early on the first drive, but the Cougars defense led by Benji Carson and Brody Young would quickly settle down and stop the Jr. Scots. HFL was also unable to move the ball in the first-half defensive slugfest, and the game would go into halftime knotted at zero. Early in the second half, James Killenbec broke the scoring drought with a dynamic run to put the Cougars up 6-0. On the very next Dundee possession, it became apparent that HFL was ready to ratchet up the defensive play, and was not going to surrender the lead. Zach Meecham came up with a big tackle for a loss, setting up the Cougars to score on their next possession. James Killenbec swiftly took it to the end zone again on another nifty outside run, extending the HFL lead to 12-0. HFL’s stifling defense stopped any attempts at a Dundee comeback. Brody Young, Benji Carson, Louis Laviani and Zander Foster all made key defensive plays down the stretch for HFL. The Cougars are now 1-1 on the season.
