The HFL Cougars B-Team kicked off the 2013 FLYFCL season with a resounding 34-0 shutout win over visiting Wayne.

Jake Easton's opening kickoff return would prove to be foreshadowing of how the day would go for the Cougars, taking it all the way down to the Eagle's 9 yard line. Although Wayne would stop the Cougars short of the goal line on that drive, they would struggle to contain HFL's potent and multi-faceted running attack the rest of the contest.

The Cougars defense quickly established their dominance over the Eagles, with John Kabes and Preston Huff combining to force the ball to be turned over on downs on Wayne's first possession. HFL quickly moved the ball with nifty runs by Mason Marble and Mitch Slymon. Patrick Lustyk punched the ball in for the first HFL score. Mitch Slymon ran in the extra point, opening up a 7-0 lead. All day long, the Cougar's excellent kickoff coverage consistently pinned the Wayne Eagles deep in their own territory. After effectively moving the ball on a few runs, the Eagles fumbled the ball which was recovered quickly by Nolan Yates.

Patrick Lustyk quickly took advanatge of the Wayne miscue on a long TD run early in the second quarter. Mitch Slymon converted on the extra point, giving HFL a 14-0 lead. The stout Cougars defense continued to smother the Eagles offense, led with big stops by John Kabes and Christian Coler. On the next Cougars drive, Mitch Slymon ripped off a beautiful run, ending just shy of the end zone. Robert Greer punched it in for the TD, with Mason Marble converting on the extra point, making it 21-0.

On the very next Wayne possession, key stops by Ryan Allen and Colt Green were followed by a high long snap, resulting in an HFL fumble recovery by John Kabes. Following another long outside run by Patrick Lustyk, he Cougars would run out the clock, taking a 21-0 lead into halftime.

The second half would see more suffocating defense and dynamic running from the Cougars. Patrick Lustyk and Robert Greer would run in two more touchdowns, with an extra point tacked on by Mason Marble. Any Wayne hopes of scoring were dashed on a punishing backfield hit by Dylan Nichols, and a game ending tackle by John Kabes. The final score of 34-0 reflected a complete team win by the Cougars, who demonstrated excellence on offense, defense, and special teams. Congratulations B-Team!
