The B-Team Cougars seemed ready to avenge their earlier loss in the season on the road at Jordan Elbridge, but had no answer in the second half for the strong running game of J-E.

Jordan Elbridge set the tone for the day right away with a long sweep around the right side for a touchdown early in the first quarter. HFL fought right back, led by some hard-nosed running by Dylan Nichols. The Cougars moved the ball effectively on J-E, with the drive culminating in a Mitch Slymon quarterback keeper for a TD to knot the game at 7-7.

Jordan Elbridge’s tough inside running and outside sweeps effectively kept the HFL defense off balance all day. They would go on the score one more TD in the second quarter, and threatened to score right before the half on a dramatic play. A J-E running back appeared to be on his way to scoring on a sweep left with time expiring in the half, only to be brought down by Mitch Slymon just yards short of the end zone. The half would end with J-E in the lead 14-7.

Unfortunately for the Cougars, J-E was only getting started. Failing to execute several on-sides kicks in the first, J-E converted on their first one in the second half. They quickly scored on another long run, and would never look back. Despite some spirited efforts on the part of HFL defenders such as Dylan Nichols, Sam Tripi, Mason Marble, and Ryan Allen, J-E’s running game was just too much for the Cougars. HFL linemen Jon Kabes and Troy Baker also did an admirable job for the Cougars. J-E’s tough defense would pitch a shutout in the second half, with the final score ending 33-7 in favor of the visiting team.

The B-Team Cougars will attempt to get back into the win column at home under the lights against Seneca Falls on Saturday night, October 13th at 7:30.
